Ellie Goes to a Sanctuary is a heartwarming tale that teaches children the importance of compassion, empathy, and the power of second chances.
My visit to Wildlife SOS’s Elephant Conservation & Care Center in Mathura served as the inspiration for my most recent children’s book.
In Ellie Goes to a Sanctuary, your child will follow the heartwarming journey of Ellie, a sad and lonely elephant trapped in a life of hardship. Forced to walk on hot roads and beg for survival, Ellie endured cruel treatment and never knew the warmth of love or the joy of companionship. But one fateful day, everything changed.
A group of compassionate people arrived, offering hope and a chance for a new beginning. They examined Ellie with care, tending to her needs and treating her with kindness. They invited her to step into a truck, and though she felt uncertain, Ellie sensed their genuine intentions.
During the journey, Ellie enjoyed the sweet taste of watermelons and the gentle touch of her rescuers’ hands. As they arrived at their destination, Ellie’s ears perked up at a sound she had long forgotten—the joyful trumpeting of another elephant. Could it be? Were there more like her?
In awe and excitement, Ellie discovered a sanctuary bustling with elephants of all sizes. They greeted her with open hearts and made her feel instantly at home. No longer alone, she had found her family at last. Among her new friends, Ellie formed a special bond with Peanut, a playful companion. They indulged in delicious treats, splashed in the river, and embraced the joys of being elephants together.
After years of isolation, Ellie again learned what it meant to be an elephant. In the sanctuary’s nurturing embrace, she rediscovered happiness, love, and life’s simple pleasures. With each passing day, Ellie blossomed, leaving her painful past behind and embracing a future filled with hope and belonging.
